CVCC member Lloyd W. Clarke, 43, Hagerstown,
MD,
died
Thursday, Sept. 20,
2007, in Incline
Village, NV,
when an oncoming motorist turned left
into the path of his bicycle.
Born Friday, Feb. 14, 1964, in Belize
City, Belize,
Central America,
he was the son of L. Wilber Clarke and Dulceta A. Burrowes Clarke.
He was a 1982 graduate of Westbury
High School
in Westbury, N.Y., and a 1986
graduate from RPI in Troy,
N.Y., and
later
graduated in 1992 from the University of Pennsylvania
with a
Ph.D. in systems engineering.
He was employed as a professor at Georgia Tech until
1999, and
later with
Schneider National (The Big Orange). He was currently employed with
ILOG, based
in France.
Lloyd was an avid cyclist and photographer, but most of
all a
loving and
devoted husband, father and son.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Dr. Sherol
Lorraine
Clarke and
daughter, Elta R. Clarke.
The Clarke family regularly attended Wednesday night
social
rides, and Lloyd
frequently attended other club rides.
He
was also a regular on the morning rides from Port City Java in Hagerstown. CVCC and all his cycling
friends will miss his ready laugh
and quiet
personality. He is
the first club member
to die while doing what we love to do.
We
hope he will be the last.
